Pay: $18-$20 per hour (includes payment for drive time)

We are passionate about creating beautiful and healthy aquatic environments and are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Aquarium Technician to join our team.

Job Summary:
The Aquarium Technician will be responsible for maintaining and caring for a variety of aquatic exhibits, ensuring the health and well-being of aquatic life, and providing exceptional service to our clients. This role is primarily field-based, with time spent traveling to client locations across the Pittsburgh area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of aquarium exhibits, ensuring pristine and safe environments for aquatic life.

  • Monitor and interpret water quality and maintain appropriate levels for all assigned exhibits.

  • Utilize proper fish-catching and handling techniques when necessary.

  • Ensure all tasks are completed with a focus on safety for both the technician and the animals.

  • Maintain accurate records of aquarium conditions, cleaning schedules, and other relevant information.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on aquarium conditions and recommendations as needed.

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with team members and clients.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Ability to drive to multiple client locations as part of the workday.

  • Ability to lift/carry 60 pounds from floor

  • Personal vehicle in good working order large enough to accommodate needed equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Marine Biology or a related field (not required but highly preferred).

  • Knowledge of aquarium or hatchery program operations, fish care, and exhibit maintenance.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic procedures for aquarium maintenance and animal care.

  • Safe work practices when handling aquatic animals.

  • Ability to clean and care for various aquarium animals and their habitats.

  • Observational skills for monitoring fish health and environmental conditions.

  • Ability to prepare and administer fish diets according to guidelines.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates to clients and supervisor

  • Strong customer service skills with emphasis on customer satisfaction

  • Record-keeping skills to document maintenance, feeding, and observations accurately.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor aquatic environments, with potential for exposure to various weather conditions.

  • Work on slippery or uneven surfaces around water.

  • Exposure to animal waste, chemicals, pesticides, noise, dust, heat, cold, and other conditions inherent in an animal care environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting and moving equipment up to 60 pounds, bending, and working in or around water.
